SUPER LEAGUE FIRST GRADE - CHAMPIONS 2011
The Normanhurst Super League First Grade side capped off their season by defeating Hills Hawks in the Super League Championship Final.
Coach David O'Keefe pulled a surprise and kept young-gun Kyle Ewart on the bench opting for the combination of Danny Biro and Ben Langford up-front. Having lost twice to Hills Hawks in the premiership, Normanhurst started the brighter of the two sides and came close to opening the scoring on several occasions, but also relied on the defence, the woodwork and goalkeeper Adam Frost to keep to the game at 0-0 at half time.Normanhurst continued to probe the Hawks defence in the second half. Kyle Ewart joined the fray early in the second half and his penetrating runs causing all sorts of problems for Hawks. On one such foray the ball fell to Danny Biro just outside the Hawks' penalty area, his speculative shot looped high over the Hawks' goalkeeper, hit the cross bar and bounced down into the goal. A well deserved lead to Normo. Coach David O'Keefe kept Normo in attack mode with Darren McKee and Tim Calvert providing fresh legs in attack. A well organised and determined team led by Craig Ironside, Dave Ochert and Andrew Goldrick ensued there was no comeback for Hawks and the final whistle sounded victory for Normo. Congratulations to the Normo First Grade team on a great win.
Goal! - Danny Biro turns to celebrate that decisive strike.
