Club Referee
A Club Referee is a person appointed by the two teams on the day to referee the game in the absence of an Official Referee.
If an Official Referee arrives at the game, they have the right to referee the game, even if the game has started with a Club Referee.
In the absence of an Official Referee, the two team managers should confer and agree on who shall referee the match. Both teams may agree to the one Club Referee doing the entire match. If agreement on a single Club Referee cannot be reached, both teams will appoint a Club Referee to one half of the game each.
A Club Referee has the same rights as an Official Referee with regards cautioning players, or sending them from the field of play. Club Referees should implement the Laws of the Game including send-offs and cautions even if they do not have red and yellow cards. If the Club Referee does not have red or yellow cards, the player, team captain and/or team coach should be informed of any player receiving a caution or send-off. Any player receiving a send-off from the Club Referee must leave the field of play in the same way as if the send-off was from an Official Referee. Club Referees should write any caution, send-offs or other incidents of note on the back of the team sheet.
If Official Assistant Referees are appointed to the game, they may not be able to act as Official Referee due to age and/or experience classifications. If they are able to be Referee for the match, then they have the right to run the game. However, if this is not the case, the Club Referee runs the game with the one or two Official Assistant Referees running the line.
